A boutique rooted in heritage

Meet the heart and soul behind Pehramni

Bindu and Shital are a mother–daughter duo on a mission to celebrate the rich culture and craftsmanship of Kutch.

Bindu, a self-taught sewing expert and retired sewing teacher, is the backbone of Pehramni. She works tirelessly behind the scenes—sourcing materials, designing, and visiting artisan workshops. Her passion extends beyond creating: she works closely with artisans, empowering women by teaching embroidery and helping them perfect the intricate mirror work that adorns our sarees and other creations. Her commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and community ensures that every piece carries a story of tradition and empowerment.

Shital, a textile graduate and designer, inherited her love of craftsmanship from her mom. A science teacher by profession, her heart beats for handicrafts and sustainability. She loves connecting with you, sharing the stories behind each product and the talented artisans who create them. “I have a lot to learn, and I am so excited for the journey,” she says.

Pehramni was born in the midst of the pandemic as a way to reconnect with our roots and uplift the artisans of Kutch—the land of our ancestors. Through our work, we aim to bring their artistry to the world while supporting sustainability and keeping tradition alive.

Every handcrafted piece begins with an art form. Explore the traditions that inspire every Pehramni collection.

Handloom Weaving

Vankarbhais, the traditional weavers of Kutch, use the extra-weft technique to create colorful geometric designs directly within the fabric. For generations, they have woven woolen shawls for other communities across the region.

Tangaliya Weaving

Tangaliya is a distinctive dotted weaving tradition in which tiny knots of colorful extra-weft yarn are twisted around the warp as the cloth is woven. The raised dots come together in rhythmic geometric patterns, giving the textile its beautiful bead-like texture.

Bandhani

Bandhani is the traditional tie-and-dye technique of Kutch. Thousands of tiny points in the fabric are intricately tied before it enters the dye bath, creating a resist that reveals its distinctive dotted patterns. Its name comes from bandh, meaning “to tie.”

Ajrak

Ajrak is Kutch’s beautiful tradition of hand-block printing, recognized by its intricate geometric patterns and deep shades of indigo and madder. Each piece passes through the artisans’ hands many times as it is carefully washed, printed and dyed, slowly revealing the richness and character that make every Ajrak unique.

Rogan Art

Rogan means “oil-based,” and this rare textile art begins with castor oil cooked into a thick gel and blended with pigments. Using a slender metal stylus, the artisan draws fine, thread-like designs directly onto the fabric, creating flowing patterns entirely by hand.

Kutch Embroidery

For generations, the women of Kutch have gathered to embroider with colorful threads and mirrors, passing their knowledge from one generation to the next. Ahir, Meghwal, Jat, Soof, Rabari, Pakko and Neran are just a few of the region’s many distinctive embroidery traditions—each carrying the identity and creativity of its community.

Moti Work

In Moti Work, tiny colorful beads are patiently woven together by hand to form intricate geometric patterns. Traditionally used to create torans and decorative pieces for the home, the craft turns simple beads into joyful works of color and celebration.

Lippan Art

Lippan is the traditional mud-and-mirror art of Kutch, used to decorate the walls of homes known as bhungas. The mud helps keep the interiors cool, while tiny mirrors catch and reflect the light—turning practical earthen walls into beautifully crafted works of art.

Kutch Leatherwork

Leatherwork in Kutch brings beauty and craftsmanship to objects used in everyday life. Artisans shape and carve leather by hand, often combining it with colorful embroidery to create distinctive bags, purses and accessories that are both practical and full of character.

Metal Bell Craft

Traditionally, handcrafted metal bells were placed around the necks of cattle, with different sounds helping herders recognize and locate their animals. Shaped by hand, these beautiful bells bring together everyday purpose, skilled craftsmanship and the musical spirit of life in Kutch.

Lacquered Woodwork

Natural lac is combined with vibrant colors to decorate hand-turned wooden objects. From rolling pins and other traditional kitchenware to decorative pieces, every item is handcrafted with colorful patterns that bring warmth and joy to everyday life.

Kutch Pottery

Kutch pottery is shaped by hand on the potter’s wheel and often delicately carved to create a jali effect that allows the glow of diyas and candles to shine through. Painted with natural colors, its vibrant patterns come alive against the warm, earthy tones of Kutch terracotta.
